Letter from March 25th, 2009 Our new community land project is progressing beautifully! We have had some workdays since the big Bhoomi Pujan land dedication weekend at the end of February, and we are now working to get Swamiji's house and some staff housing built. We completed the purchase a week or so ago of a lovely piece of property very near the the site of the future temple, bringing our total acreage to 26.1. This adjacent terraced piece has an expansive view from atop a gentle hillside, and will have easy access to the road. The land has now been cleared, and the plan is to build the foundations before the monsoon season begins so that work can progress through the summer. When Swamiji returns from America in September, we are hoping that he can move into his new home, if not immediately, then very soon after... One of the monks, Aditya, is a doctor, and he has started having a clinic twice a week for the villagers living near the land. He is a giving them instruction in basic hygiene and nutrition, as well as treating a variety of ailments. Ramani, Tim, Steve, and others are working to get permaculture swales dug, and the initial garden area fenced in. Water is scarce on the property at the moment, so we are also working to get a pipeline in, and investigating alternative methods of water harvesting. |
